Formal Organization of Women in Barangay Alang-Alang

Nineteen women coming from the 10 sitios of Barangay Alang-Alang came together to formally organize themselves into a “Women’s Group”.  The organization procedure was so interesting and lively as it was ably conducted by Zontian Odette Jereza who is an expert in this field.  There were 19 women present and all of them participated actively through the unique organizing procedure of Odette. The women were able to discover themselves, express their innate womanly qualities, express their hidden desires and envision their dreams.  These dreams are not only for themselves but for their families as well and also for their respective communities or sitios and eventually for the whole Barangay.

Zonta Club of Cebu II Documentary Film Scholarship

At the ZI convention in Torino, Italy, one of the  International Service Projects that International President Lynn Mckenzie presented for this biennium was “MASS COMMUNICATION WITH A PURPOSE:  GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP ON EDUTAINMENT FOR SOCIAL CHANGE”.  The primer on the project in The Zontian magazine describes it thus: “Edutainment is the term used to describe a proven approach that combines mass communication of a positive and locally relevant message with community outreach to transform the myth that violence against women (VAW) is “normal” and “inevitable”.  The edutainment approach, which combines traditional and contemporary media, is proven to be both cost-effective and efficient in reaching women and men on a much wider scale. “
